Comprehensive System Recall[UPDATE] The FDA announced a recall of Zimmer-Biomet’s “Comprehensive Reverse Shoulder Implant” on Feb. 15, 2017. Only three years after initial marketing of Biomet’s Comprehensive reverse shoulder, the company recalled certain central componet parts of this system.
In its September 2010 “Urgent Medical Device Recall Notice,” Biomet wrote that it was pulling at least 45 locking ring components and 45 humeral tray components from distribution in at least eight different states. Biomet said it began the recall after it received complaints from doctors and patients that the device itself was fracturing apart after being surgically implanted.
The FDA issued official notice of the recall in mid-December 2010 and called it as “class II,” meaning that use of these devices could cause reversible or temporary negative health outcomes. The FDA ended the recall in July 2011, but the cause remains listed as “pending” on the FDA’s website.
These locking ring and numeral tray components were recalled and taken off of the market in at least eight different states in the U.S., including Oklahoma, Texas, South Dakota, Colorado, Alabama, Maryland, Virginia and New York. As you can see, the recall did cover our state of Texas. Carabin Shaw’s Texas Shoulder Implant Lawyers are ready to talk to you to see if the specific facts of your situation fit into the criteria for a Biomet Comprehensive Lawsuit. When they are filed, they can get significant compensation.
Biomet Agrees to a Settlement of a Comprehensive Lawsuit for at Least $350,000In February 2016, Biomet agreed to pay to settle a lawsuit involving its Comprehensive Reverse Shoulder System.
The lawsuit itself was filed by the plaintiffs in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. It was filed by a man who got an implant with two of the subject Biomet Comprehensive Shoulder systems. The implanted devices later became fractured and the unfortunate man had to go through additional rounds of surgery to replace and remove the systems that failed.
The plaintiff filed suit against Biomet alleging a product defect in 2014. The defendant company agreed to enter into a settlement of those allegations two years down the road in February 2016.
