Deadly Bus Accident

A charter bus accident in the rural part of northern Webb County leaves eight people dead and more than 40 injured. Laredo, Texas, is the nearest city to this region of Webb County. This particularly deadly bus accident was a single-vehicle casualty and occurred along a stretch of Interstate Highway 83, just south of the Webb–Dimmit county line, about 114 miles southwest of San Antonio.

The charter bus was owned by OGA Charters, and was en route from San Juan, Texas, to a casino in Eagle Pass, located in the Rio Grande Valley. It appears that the driver of the charter bus lost control of the wheel, which caused the bus to rollover. According to a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Service, seven individuals died at the scene, while another later died in the hospital in Laredo. Investigators confirmed that 22 people were taken to the Laredo Medical Center, while seven others were taken to a hospital in Dimmit County. The full extent of their injuries is unknown.
