CPSC Recalls EvenFlo Infant Car Seat

The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of a popular infant car seat this morning. Over 45,000 units of Evenflo Embrace Car Seat are being recalled because the handle, when used as a baby carrier, can unexpectedly release, propelling the seat forward and your baby to the ground. It is now been confirmed that over 160 children have actually suffered injuries. Injuries that include a skull fracture, concussions, cuts, scrapes and bruises and pending litigation of a death of an infant.

It is important that parents understand that they need to stop using the EvenFlo Car Seat as a infant carrier. The recalled car seat/carriers have model numbers beginning with 317, 320, 397, 398 and were made before April 8, 2006.

"In 2001 Evenflo had recalled another car seat. That car seat recall resulted in over 3.4 million infant car seat carriers being recalled. Those carriers were recalled for the same or similar problem. This product was sold at stores nationwide from December 2004 through September 2006, for $70 to $200, when sold with a compatible stroller.
