Trek Product Recall News

• In April 2015 – Manufacturer and designer Trek recalled at least 1 million bicycles because of a reported issue involving safety. This issue involved contact, which was not designed or expected, between the disc brake on the front wheel and the quick release lever contained on the hub of the front wheel. Several injuries have reportedly been suffered. One of these sad incidents resulted in the victim being paralyzed.


• In June 2014 – Manufacturer and designer Trek, together with fellow bike manufacturer Scott recalled numerous bicycles with “SR Suntour” front forks including model years 2011 through 2013 because reports indicated that these forks posed a hazard for crashes, according to reports from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). About 120,000 Trek made bicycles were recalled. This was combined with 5,200 bikes recalled by Scott. Roughly 28 broken forks got reported for forks installed in Trek bicycles. Of these, five injuries resulted, including bruises, broken bones and a separated shoulder.


• In April 2012 –The CPSC announced that manufacturer Trek, along with manufacturers GT and Giant, had recalled roughly 17,000 bikes in total between them. These included some from the model years 2011 and 2012. Twelve incidents, two injurious, involving brake forks were reported. These involved a chipped tooth and lacerations.
