H-E-B, Walmart, and Costco Products Recalled

The FDA issued an updated product recall on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, for frozen strawberries sold at H-E-B, Walmart, and Costco in Texas for the risk of Hepatitis A infection. According to a San Antonio Express-News report, similar products sold in other states resulted in nine cases of illness, with three of those cases resulting in hospitalization, though none have been reported in Texas so far. Customers who have purchased these products are advised to throw them away or see a healthcare professional if they have consumed them:

Construction Zone Accidents Can Have Fatal Consequences.

Worker Killed by Falling Equipment 

A 51-year-old construction worker died on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, after equipment fell and crushed him, according to a San Antonio Express-News report. The worker, who the Medical Examiner’s Office later identified as Shawn Jimmy Pedregon, was fixing a collapsed manhole when the equipment gave way, causing him to fall 15 feet with the equipment falling on top of him and trapping him. The incident occurred on the 5100 block of Rogers Road on the West Side at around 8 a.m. that morning.

Woman Killed Walking Downtown

A woman identified as forty-two-year-old Corina Huerta was killed in a pedestrian accident while walking to her car, according to a San Antonio Express-News report. The woman was walking to her car in a downtown parking lot on Brooklyn Avenue and Dallas Street when she was pinned between two vehicles on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. The driver stopped at attempted to help the woman, who later died of her injuries at the hospital. According to the report, the police determined the driver was not intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Apartment fires can have serious consequences.

One Man Dead in Downtown Apartment Fire

According to a San Antonio Express-News report, an apartment fire broke out at around 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, that forced thirty residents to evacuate. The Villa Hermosa apartments at 327 N. Flores St suffered at least $30,000 worth of damage before firefighters were able to put out the flames, and one man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition due to smoke inhalation. He later died at the hospital and was identified as 69-year-old Gilbert Dauphina. Officials still do not know what caused the fire, and no other injuries were reported.

Man Killed and Children Injured in Wrong-Way Crash

A 22-year-old man is dead after being hit head-on by a wrong-way driver at around 1 a.m. on May 30, 2023, according to a San Antonio Express-News report. The 39-year-old wrong-way driver was arrested and charged with intoxicated manslaughter, as well as two counts of driving while intoxicated with a child under 15, and two counts of injury to a child causing bodily injury-reckless, as he had two children in the pickup with him at the time. All of them were transported to the hospital with minor injuries after the crash, and the 22-year-old died of his injuries at the hospital.

At Least Two People Are Dead Hours Apart After Fatal Auto Accidents

Thursday night, on May 25, 2023, a woman was hit and killed by a vehicle when crossing the street on the 1600 block of Pleasanton Road on the South Side of San Antonio, according to a San Antonio Express-News report. The driver stopped to render aid and called emergency services, and there are no charges against him at this time. Then, Friday morning at around 6:30 a.m., a fatal accident shut down four lanes of I-10 on the Far East Side of San Antonio. No further information was provided for this accident, except that there was at least one fatality.

Police Search for Driver After Hit and Run Kills Cyclist

San Antonio police are looking for a driver that hit and killed a cyclist and then fled the scene, according to a San Antonio Express-News report. The accident occurred early Friday morning, just before 2 a.m. when drivers on the 3500 block of Roland Avenue reported a mangled bicycle with a man next to it on the side of the road. According to the police report, a driver failed to navigate a turn at a curve in the road and clipped the cyclist, driving off without stopping to assist him. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Man Dies After Being Hit by Two Passing Vehicles

Police close the West Military Drive at Luke Boulevard near the joint San Antonio-Lackland Base due to a fatal accident involving a pedestrian on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, according to a San Antonio Express-News story. The accident occurred at around 5:30 a.m. when a pedestrian who was walking on the road was struck by two passing vehicles, both of which stopped to help him. The police did not release any additional information about the accident; the story is ongoing.

Cyclist and Pedestrian Dead After Fatal Crash

On January 7, 2023, the Fort Worth police reported a fatal accident that took two lives on Interstate 30. For reasons unknown, a black sedan was stopped in the shoulder or in the westbound lane. A motorcycle was unable to avoid the sedan, crashing head-on into it and being ejected from the motorcycle into oncoming traffic. A woman who was standing outside of the black sedan was thrown due to the impact of the motorcycle and also fell into oncoming traffic. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, and officers are investigating the incident.

Man Charged After Killing 8 With SUV

A man has been charged with eight counts of manslaughter and ten counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly plowing a vehicle into a group of men waiting at a bus stop, according to San Antonio Express-News. The deadly crash killed seven of the men at the scene, and one later died of his injuries in the hospital. They were waiting on the curb due to there being no actual bus stop, making them more vulnerable to this alleged attack. The man who was driving the Range Rover attempted to flee the scene but was stopped by pedestrians.
