(June 30, 2022) On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, a portion of Interstate 10 was shut down after a fatal collision, according to KSAT12. The accident happened at around 11:00 a.m. and left one unidentified driver dead. According to police, a white truck carrying a heavy load of lumber and bags of cement pulled over to the left shoulder of the Fresno exit after experiencing a stalled engine. The driver exited the vehicle in an attempt to discover the issue when a white sedan collided with the back of the truck. The driver of the white sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. This fatal accident resulted in the closure of all eastbound lanes between Fresno Street and Hildebrand Avenue, just northwest of downtown San Antonio. The driver of the truck and his passenger sustained no injuries. The police described the incident as a tragic accident and did not expect to file criminal charges at the time of the accident.

Why are rear-end collisions so common on Interstate Highways?

Rear-end collisions account for twenty-eight percent of all traffic accidents in the United States, according to the National Highway Safety Administration. This makes them one of the most common accidents in the United States. However, of those twenty-eight percent, only six percent of all rear-end collisions result in a fatality, as in the above case. But why are they so common, especially on Interstate Highways?

Who is at fault in an auto accident in San Antonio?

Personal Injury and Negligence law varies widely between States. Texas is an “At-Fault” State, as opposed to a “No-Fault” State like Florida or Pennsylvania. This means that any driver who is either completely or at least 50% responsible for an accident must take legal responsibility for it. To recover damages from the responsible party, the plaintiff must prove that the other party is at least 50% responsible for the accident. That is why it is important to call the police, or if the police cannot come to the accident site, to go to the police station and file a report if you have been in an auto accident in San Antonio. Our experienced attorneys at the Law Office of Carabin Shaw have nearly 30 years of experience dealing with big insurance companies here in San Antonio. If you think you have a personal injury claim, it’s important that you contact a reliable firm as soon as possible.

According to San Antonio Police, early Monday morning, March 7th, a tragic automobile accident occurred, which left a man dead after his vehicle collided with an 18-Wheeler. These events took place on Loop 410 southbound, near the Pearsall Road exit, at around 3:45 a.m. The man’s dark-colored sport utility vehicle crashed into the back of an 18-wheeler that pulled off onto the side of the highway. He was trapped inside the automobile underneath the back end of the 18-wheeler. Sadly the man driving the SUV died. However, the driver of the 18-wheeler did not suffer injuries.

Car accidents are unique to each individual. The damages, injuries, and specific losses suffered by each individual injured in a car wreck will vary. Generally, most car accidents can be attributed to negligence or a momentary lack of attention, but some can also be attributed to reckless behavior. High-speed driving and driving while intoxicated (DWI or DUI) are examples of reckless behavior. In addition to understanding the rules of the road, our car wreck lawyers understand the special duties imposed on drivers and operators. Our practice of searching for answers over the years has sometimes allowed us to pinpoint the underlying causes of most car accidents and determine the responsible party. Our car accident attorneys have handled numerous car wreck losses over the past 15 years.

In most cases of liability claims, determining who is at fault in a car wreck is a matter of figuring out who is negligent. You can turn to our car accident attorneys for assistance in determining who was at fault in your accident. The first thing we’ll do is to obtain your police report, analyze the traffic laws, interview witnesses, and, if necessary, hire investigators or experts to determine who was at fault for your car accident.

A tragic accident with an 18-wheeler took place at 12:30 A.M. this morning on I-37 in South Bexar County. The accident claimed the life of one individual and left the other in critical condition, as reported by KSAT News. The truck driver sustained no injuries; however, the impact pushed his vehicle into a nearby ditch. The other vehicle sustained significant damage, and the highway was closed temporarily to clear the debris. The cause of the accident has not yet been reported, nor have the names of the victims.

A collision with an 18-wheeler often has tragic consequences. Due to the sheer size of the vehicles, even a collision at low speeds can result in severe damage and injury. Combine this size and strength with Texas highway speeds, and the result is devastating. Victims of commercial vehicle accidents often sustain major permanent injuries, such as brain damage and extreme disfiguration. Unfortunately, it is often the case that victims of a commercial vehicle accident tragically lose their lives, as in this case. The law office of Carabin Shaw has been representing victims of 18-wheeler accidents for nearly 30 years in San Antonio and the surrounding area.

A man tragically lost his life on Tuesday morning after being struck by two vehicles in San Antonio. Initially reported, this horrible incident occurred at Culebra Road and North San Horacio Avenue near St. Mary’s University. According to reports, the man was believed to be in his early 20’s. He sadly got hit by a Dodge pickup truck, and after the vehicle struck him, it drove off. A while later, another automobile drove across the man while he was still lying on the street. This vehicle did not stop either. It drove off. Actively responding to the scene, the authorities found the man lying in the middle of the street when they arrived. The man lost his life due to the tremendous injuries he suffered.

Unfortunately, distracted driving is a massive issue in San Antonio. Those who choose to drive inattentively plague our streets and, through their sheer carelessness, cause a great deal of unnecessary pain and suffering. Fleeing after an accident and refusing to take responsibility for the actions one causes is an unfortunate reality.

In recent years, many hit-and-run drivers have been distracted just before their tragic accidents, according to collected testimonies. Eating, texting on their phones, and talking to their friends are all things these drivers may be doing right before facing the utter shock of an auto accident. But unfortunately, these drivers often panic and drive off, not facing what they have just done.

A man was killed in a horrific three-car accident early Monday morning on the southwest side of San Antonio. The driver was allegedly heading southbound and lost control of his vehicle, causing him to collide with a passenger vehicle and the rig of an 18-wheeler heading northbound. The driver was immediately rushed to the hospital with significant injuries, including several broken bones and internal injuries but was pronounced dead hours later. The drivers of the other two vehicles were not seriously injured. Detectives are unclear what caused the driver to lose control. However, the crash happened right around the same time it began to rain, and they suspect that may have contributed. The accident occurred around 5 am on Monday, January 31, just off New Laredo Highway near Briggs Avenue.

Roughly 3,000 people die on Texas roadways every year. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports 4.9 billion total costs of motor vehicle fatalities in Texas every year, with 2.9 billion or 46% being young adults ages 20-34. Fatalities on Texas roadways are a severe problem that affects thousands of families every year. At our firm, we understand that these are people, not just another statistic. They were brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, and children whose families were left to mourn and grieve. Fortunately, the Law office of Carabin Shaw has the tools and resources needed to help.

December 17, 2021 – A Colorado truck driver was sentenced to 110 years in prison for a crash that occurred on I-10 in April of 2019 which left 4 people dead. 26-year-old Texas native Rogel Aguilera Mederos pleaded for leniency and the Colorado judge refused, claiming the law prevent such an action. However, as of today, more than three million have signed a petition asking for clemency or commutation for time served from Colorado Governor Jared Polis.

In April 2019, Rogel was driving down I-10 at 85mph during rush hour when his brakes failed, and he collided with dozens of stopped vehicles. The collision sparked a massive fire that shut I-10 down for roughly 24 hours, killing 4 people trapped by the flames. Among the victims was a 24-year-old named Miguel Angel. Rogel had previously failed to utilize one of the state’s runway truck ramps, which the prosecution focused heavily on during his trial. When asked why, he said that he was unaware that his brakes were out, and that he made efforts to prevent the accident.

Auto Accidents happen every day, but when an 18-wheeler is involved the injuries and damage that occurs can be so much greater. It is important to be aware of your rights if you or someone you love is affected by an auto accident involving an 18-wheeler.
