(June 24, 2022) A devastating accident occurred Wednesday evening in south Laredo. This accident happened near the intersection of Jamie Zapata Highway and Los Presidentes. Both automobile drivers explained to the officers that they saw a green light before driving off and then collided with the light post, according to the Laredo Police Department.

According to reports, emergency responders found two 19-year-old victims riding in the same vehicle. It was a multiple-car crash that tragically left a man and a woman in critical condition. When the emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they had to call a rescue team to assist in unpinning a woman from the automobile. She needed serious medical attention and was hastily brought to LMC in critical condition. The man was taken to the same hospital in serious condition. However, due to his extensive injuries, Laredo police state he was later flown to a San Antonio hospital to receive medical attention.

In devastating accidents such as this one, there are numerous situations in which you can sustain injuries ranging in severity. Because every auto accident is different, there are many types of factors that can lead to injuries suffered. For example, the speed at which the vehicle was moving, what caused the collision, and how critical the impact was are some of the many factors involved in auto accidents.

(June 9, 2022) Two crashes caused by negligent drivers going the wrong way left three people dead nearly a month apart. KSAT12 reported an incident on May 8, 2022, on Bandera Road near Zachry drive, where a driver of a white van going the wrong way struck two vehicles at around 10:30 a.m. He was found unresponsive at the scene, and then he died later at the hospital. The other two drivers were seriously injured though they did not receive any life-threatening injuries and were in stable condition. It was not reported whether or not the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Another incident on June 5, 2022, found a driver heading northbound on South Interstate Highway 37. The driver of the 2013 Ford Focus collided with another driver of a 2011 Toyota Corolla at around 2:30 a.m., as reported by KSAT12. The driver of the Toyota was sent into another vehicle and then redirected into a grassy median due to the impact. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Head-on collision accidents usually have very serious consequences. The damage to vehicles and drivers is almost always severe or life-threatening. It is also nearly impossible to avoid a driver traveling the wrong way. The time after a serious accident is emotionally taxing enough without having the additional burden of the legal complexities of auto accident law and insurance companies. Especially if you lost a loved one due to the negligence of another driver, the last thing you want to do is deal with insurance companies who want you to settle for less than your full legal compensation.

(May 26, 2022) Two people are in critical condition, and one person has only minor injuries after a rollover accident on the Far West Side on Saturday, May 21, 2022, according to KSAT News. Authorities are unclear as to what caused the accident or whether drugs or alcohol were involved. The accident happened on Marbach Road and Pue Road at around 12:30 a.m. when an SUV collided with a Jeep and rolled over. The woman driver had to be extracted from the vehicle with Jaws of Life and was transported to a local hospital along with her passenger in critical condition. The driver of the Jeep was also taken to the hospital but fortunately only sustained minor injuries. This happened less than a week after a four-vehicle accident on Tuesday, May 16, 2022, also on the Far West Side, according to NEWS4SA. A driver ran a red light at an intersection at Potranco and Stevens Parkway around 8:15 p.m. No other details were provided, except that at least two people were transported to the hospital. Their conditions are unknown.

It is possible for any vehicle to roll over. However, SUVs and Pickup trucks are more prone to rollover accidents due to their high center of gravity. Although accounting for a mere 3 percent of all auto accidents, rollover accidents are among the worst types of accidents to experience. Because it is likely that the vehicle occupants will be ejected, the injuries sustained are usually severe if not deadly. Sadly, rollover accidents account for 10,000 deaths a year, or thirty-five percent of all traffic fatalities. Sixty-nine percent of deaths in rollover accidents are caused by the motorist’s failure to wear safety restraints. Design flaws can also be a contributing factor. If this is the case, the manufacturer may be liable for damages.

(May 26, 2022) On Thursday, May 19, 2022, a woman died after crashing violently into a ditch, according to KENS 5 News. Emergency medical services tried to save the woman, whose name had not been released, but they were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Safe driving habits for driving at night:

There are a few differences between driving in the daytime and driving at night. Following a few extra rules is critical for staying safe on Texas roads at night.

(May 20, 2022) Two people fled the scene of an accident early this morning when a pickup truck collided with two trains on the West Side, according to KSAT. The accident happened at around 2:15 AM when a pickup truck drove off of a dead-end road and through a fence, colliding with a train parked on the nearby tracks. Police say that the drivers fled the vehicle. Later, another train collided with the pickup truck, wedging it between the two trains. No injuries were reported as a result. Both crashes happened on the tracks at the end of Kirk Place, which is a neighborhood street near Highway 90. When police reached the owner of the pickup by phone, he denied driving the truck, saying he had lent it to two friends who called him after the collision. The police have been unable to reach them. The road was temporarily closed while clean-up crews spent hours clearing the debris.

Do I have to call the police if I have been in an accident?

Texas Law requires that the police are notified of any vehicle accident if someone has been injured or killed or if damages exceed $1,000. Failure to do so is illegal and can result in either a misdemeanor or felony charge, depending on the extent of the damage or injuries.

Texas Accidents on the Rise

On March 14, 2022, the TxDOT reported that 2021 marked the second-deadliest year for Texas roadways, with 4,480 people killed. That is a mere two hundred and twenty-one less than the deadliest year since 1940, reported in 1981. Several thousand of these deaths were caused by the simple but devastating mistakes of not wearing a seatbelt or driving over the posted speed limit. 2021 also saw a 15% increase in fatalities over 2020, with an 18.4% increase in the first half of the year alone. The TxDOT is tracking accidents to determine where roads need to be improved to make our roads safer. However, the primary responsibility for safe roads in Texas lies in the hands of Texas motorists. Commissioner Laura Ryan said, “Driving behavior is the cause, but also one of the most important solutions. This is not blame. These are the facts. We all have a role.” If you or someone you love has been affected by the careless actions of a Texas motorist, you may be entitled to legal compensation. Our Law Office has been representing the people of San Antonio and the surrounding area for thirty years, and we have the expertise and experience necessary to represent you.
