RV Gas Line Breaks and Causes Fire that Totals RV, Damages Two Homes on the South Side

According to a KSAT News report, an RV fire damaged two homes on the South Side last night.

SAFD reported the accident happened just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8th, on the 1200 block of Cantrell Drive. Someone was cooking in the RV when the gas line broke for unknown reasons and started a fire. The RV was parked between two homes, and both sustained damage in the blaze. The RV was totaled, but the level of damage to the homes was not reported. Everyone managed to evacuate safely, and no one was taken to the hospital, although one person was treated on the scene.

Texas has over 47,000 miles of natural gas pipelines and 176 gas processing facilities.

Gas Explosion Injuries in Texas: When to Sue

Texas deals with a lot of gas leaks and accidents that cause major damage and injury.

The American Energy Coalition estimates that there are 287 natural gas explosions per year across the United States. There have been 2,700 major leaks across the country since 2010. Many people say that these numbers are estimates, as many incidents go unreported.

If you’ve been hurt by a natural gas explosion or leak in Texas, you’re probably wondering if you can sue. There are scenarios where you can sue for damages if you’ve been hurt in a gas explosion.

Liability for Gas Leaks and Explosions

In Texas, you can file a personal injury claim if you’re hurt because of a person’s or a company’s negligence.

Some scenarios where negligence may apply include:

  • Defective Installation — If a company installed an appliance incorrectly or damaged the line during installation, they may be held responsible for accidents caused by that error.
  • Damaged Lines — If a contractor or construction company damages your line and causes you injury, they may be held responsible for your injuries.
  • Undetected Leaks — Gas companies are required to follow strict standards in Texas to keep people safe. If they fail to do this, they may bear fault for your injuries.

You cannot file a personal injury claim if:

  • You caused your own injury (or significantly contributed to your injury),
  • You were not injured,
  • There was no negligence involved in your injury.

Do You Need an Attorney for a Gas Explosion/Leak Injury?

If you were hurt in a natural gas accident, you should talk to a lawyer about your claim before proceeding.

Natural gas accidents come with complex liability and often serious injury. If you’re seriously or permanently injured, or if you’ve lost a loved one, you should never represent your own claim for any kind of accident. This is especially true for gas explosion/leak accidents.
