Man Hit, Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident on Culebra

According to a KSAT News report, a man was killed while walking on Culebra Road last night.

Police reported the accident happened at around 10 p.m. on September 3rd, at the intersection of Culebra and North General McMullen on the West Side. A man was attempting to cross Culebra when he was struck by a pickup truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup did not stop to render aid and has not yet been found. The investigation is ongoing.

#2 — Make Yourself as Visible as Possible

Visibility is key to pedestrian safety. If there’s a chance for rain in the forecast, choose bright-colored clothing and put an umbrella in your bag. Bright-colored clothes make you stand out to drivers, especially against the bleak gray of rainy conditions. Umbrellas do more than just keep you dry — they also help drivers see you and keep the rain out of your eyes, which can impact your ability to see an approaching vehicle.

#3 — Use Extra Caution When Crossing

Following all of the rules of the road is critical in rainy conditions. In addition to proper pedestrian etiquette, here are a few additional crossing tips for when it’s raining:

1. Don’t rush the crosswalk — If there are only a few seconds left, wait until the next opportunity.
2. Don’t cross between vehicles — Crossing between vehicles is never a good idea, but is especially dangerous in the rain.
3. Don’t use your phone while crossing — Keep distractions to a minimum. You need to be fully alert in case a driver loses control or doesn’t see you.
4. Make eye contact before crossing — Even if you have the signal, make eye contact with the driver before stepping in front of them.
