A woman identified as forty-two-year-old Corina Huerta was killed in a pedestrian accident while walking to her car, according to a San Antonio Express-News report. The woman was walking to her car in a downtown parking lot on Brooklyn Avenue and Dallas Street when she was pinned between two vehicles on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. The driver stopped at attempted to help the woman, who later died of her injuries at the hospital. According to the report, the police determined the driver was not intoxicated at the time of the crash.

One Man Dead in Downtown Apartment Fire

According to a San Antonio Express-News report, an apartment fire broke out at around 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, that forced thirty residents to evacuate. The Villa Hermosa apartments at 327 N. Flores St suffered at least $30,000 worth of damage before firefighters were able to put out the flames, and one man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition due to smoke inhalation. He later died at the hospital and was identified as 69-year-old Gilbert Dauphina. Officials still do not know what caused the fire, and no other injuries were reported.

Officer Injured by a Pickup That Failed to Yield

An officer on a motorcycle was thrown from his bike, hit by a pickup, and then was dragged for a short way underneath it as it failed to follow another officer’s instructions to move over, according to a San Antonio Express-News report. The officer was attempting to make a lane change and move to the front of the procession from the back. The leading officer signaled the approaching pickup to remain to the right, but the pickup ignored the instruction heading straight and colliding with the officer. The officer was taken to the hospital with road rash injuries, lacerations, and possible back injuries and is expected to fully recover.

Man Killed and Children Injured in Wrong-Way Crash

A 22-year-old man is dead after being hit head-on by a wrong-way driver at around 1 a.m. on May 30, 2023, according to a San Antonio Express-News report. The 39-year-old wrong-way driver was arrested and charged with intoxicated manslaughter, as well as two counts of driving while intoxicated with a child under 15, and two counts of injury to a child causing bodily injury-reckless, as he had two children in the pickup with him at the time. All of them were transported to the hospital with minor injuries after the crash, and the 22-year-old died of his injuries at the hospital.

At Least Two People Are Dead Hours Apart After Fatal Auto Accidents

Thursday night, on May 25, 2023, a woman was hit and killed by a vehicle when crossing the street on the 1600 block of Pleasanton Road on the South Side of San Antonio, according to a San Antonio Express-News report. A man in his 60s was taken to the hospital in critical condition at around 10 p.m. on May 23, 2023, after crashing his motorcycle into a turning vehicle, according to a KSAT News report. The man was running a red light at an intersection on the South side near Roosevelt Avenue when he collided head-on with a vehicle that was turning onto Mission Road. San Antonio police are looking for a driver that hit and killed a cyclist and then fled the scene, according to a San Antonio Express-News report. The accident occurred early Friday morning, just before 2 a.m. when drivers on the 3500 block of Roland Avenue reported a mangled bicycle with a man next to it on the side of the road. According to the police report, a driver failed to navigate a turn at a curve in the road and clipped the cyclist, driving off without stopping to assist him. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene.

San Antonio Express-News reported a massive fight broke out between twenty individuals at a bar near UTSA just before 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023. The police were called due to a fight that broke out between two groups of ten people, who were pushed outside by security and bouncers. The fight escalated, and before police were able to arrive at the scene, one man pulled a gun and fired into the crowd. One man was hit in the chest and died in the hospital, and three others were injured. The gunman and one injured man fled the scene, and no arrests have been made at this time.
