Infant Hospitalized With Serious Injuries After DWI Accident on the West Side
According to a KSAT News report, a 3-month-old baby was seriously injured in a car accident on the West Side.
Police reported the accident happened at around midnight on Saturday, January 25th, in the 10100 block of Ingram Road. A 22-year-old man driving a Volkswagon with a 3-month-old passenger and another juvenile passenger made an illegal left turn into an apartment complex. Two trucks — a black Chevrolet and a white pickup truck — were speeding behind the Volkswagon when it made the illegal turn. The black Chevrolet rear-ended the Volkswagon, sending it into the eastbound lanes of Ingram Road. The driver of the Chevy fled the scene after entering the other white pickup truck.
The 3-month-old was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Police did not release the age or condition of the other juvenile passenger. The 22-year-old driver of the Volkswagon was found to be intoxicated and arrested on two charges for driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years old. The 21-year-old driver of the black Chevrolet pickup was found and arrested on one charge of collision involving serious bodily injury.
No other injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

Protecting Your Infant After a Car Accident in Texas
There is nothing more devastating to a parent than when your precious baby is injured — especially when they’re hurt in a car accident caused by a careless driver.
Infants are particularly susceptible to head injuries after an accident, which can affect their development and cause severe trauma. Every second counts after a car accident with an infant. It’s critical that parents know what to do and what to watch out for if their baby is injured.
What to Do After an Accident With an Infant
Here’s everything you should do to protect your infant after a car accident (even if they do not appear to be injured!):
- Call 9-1-1 — Immediately call for EMS and police to arrive at the scene. Police can investigate and make an accident report, while EMS can asses your infant’s condition.
- Keep Your Child Still — Trying to move your infant could make head, spinal, or neck injuries worse. Leave them in their seat until EMS arrives.
- Allow EMS to Treat You and Your Baby — Cooperate with EMS and let them take you to the emergency room if they see fit.
- Consult a Pediatrician — After you receive emergency care, take your baby to see a pediatrician ASAP. They can help you determine if specialist care is required.
- Ongoing Care — Infants often display signs of injury well after an accident. Closely monitor your infant for at least 3 days after an accident, and immediately seek medical care if they display concerning symptoms. Inform any other caretakers of the accident to ensure your baby is monitored at all times.
What Symptoms Should I Look For?
Signs of injury after an accident commonly include symptoms like:
- Excessive crying,
- Lethargy (baby has difficulty waking up and staying awake),
- Vomiting,
- Difficulty feeding (refusing to eat or vomiting all food),
- Changes in mood/behavior.
Trust your gut. If you think something is wrong with your infant, take them to get medically evaluated.
