Types of Compensation for Fire and Explosion Loses in San Antonio

Normally, house fires in the United States are caused by accidents in the kitchen, smoking indoors, and using appliances incorrectly. When this is the case, homeowners insurance (typically) covers accidental fire damage to the home. However, sometimes the products that are sold to American consumers do not meet the safety standards that those consumers rely on to keep them safe, and these defective products can result in catastrophic house fires that can impact the victims for the rest of their lives. When this is the case, there are several types of compensation that could be awarded to the victims in a personal injury lawsuit, including:

  • Pain and Suffering – Physical injuries are not the only type of injury a person can experience after a house fire or explosion injury caused by a defective product. Survivors of burn injuries and house fires often speak to how emotionally traumatizing the event and injuries were to them, especially if they lost a loved one in the accident.
  • Medical Bills/Lifestyle Changes – The financial impact of hospital stays and edits to the home or vehicle of a burn injury survivor can be extreme, especially if the injury causes lifelong medical needs such as needing a wheelchair, physical disabilities, or brain injuries. Survivors may need help performing daily tasks for months or for the rest of their lives.
  • Punitive Damages – Very rarely, punitive damages can be awarded in rare circumstances where gross negligence on the part of a company is involved with fire and explosion injuries. For example, blocking fire exits with excess inventory leading to injury of employees unable to escape a burning building, may result in punitive damages against the company.

These are just some of the types of damages a fire or explosion injury victim could be entitled to after an accident. The only way to tell for sure what applies in your case is to talk to a personal injury attorney.
