Home a Complete Loss, Residents Displaced After Attic Fire on the Northeast Side
According to a KSAT News report, a home was burned out, and residents were displaced after a major fire last week.
SAFD reported the fire occurred at around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 28th, at a home on the 5900 block of Burning Sunrise Drive. When the crew arrived at the scene, heavy flames were reportedly visible coming from the attic. It is believed the fire started near the chimney and spread to the attic, though a more thorough investigation will need to be completed to know for sure. No one was injured, and only one nearby home suffered slight damage before SAFD was able to put out the fire. The home appeared to be a total loss, the battalion chief stated in the report.

Summer Safety Tips: Firework Safety for the 4th of July in Texas
As many families across Texas prepare to gather and celebrate our nation this week, it’s important to review fireworks safety.
Almost 10,000 people were treated for fireworks injuries last year around Independence Day. Older teenagers and small children are the most likely to suffer serious injuries, but anyone can be hurt. Whether you’re going to a firework event or celebrating in your neighborhood, ensure everyone has a fun and injury-free celebration by following these tips.
Firework Safety Tips from the CPSC
If you or anyone else is severely injured by a firework, call 9-1-1 and seek medical attention.
- Alcohol and Fireworks Don’t Mix — Save the beer for someone else or consider a non-alcoholic alternative if you’re in charge of fireworks this year.
- Don’t Let Kids Play with Fireworks — Sparklers can burn as hot as a blow torch. If you let a child use a firework, make sure to constantly supervise them.
- Don’t Point or Throw Fireworks at Anyone — Make sure older children are aware that fireworks are not toys and can severely burn someone if used improperly.
- Use Proper Lighting Techniques — Never stand directly over a firework when lighting it. Also, make sure to move away immediately once you have lit the firework.
- Fire Safety — Wet down your grass before lighting anything. Always keep a bucket of water nearby for unexpected fires during activities. Also, make sure to thoroughly soak used fireworks when tossing them in the garbage to prevent accidental trash fires.
- Choose Carefully — Make sure your fireworks are labeled for consumer use, and never use illegal fireworks.
Of course, you can do everything right and still be injured by a firework. In some cases, you may be able to sue for a firework injury to you or your child. If you think negligence was involved in your firework injury, or if you were severely injured or permanently injured by a firework, you should talk to an attorney about a potential legal claim.
