3 People Hospitalized After 6-vehicle Crash Caused by Driver Running a Red Light on Highway 151
According to a KSAT News report, a driver caused a 6-vehicle accident that hospitalized three people last week.
Police reported the accident happened at around noon on Wednesday, February 12th, at the intersection of Potranco and the Highway 151 access road. An unidentified driver drove their black pickup truck through a red light, crashing into multiple vehicles. Three people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, though their condition was not reported. The driver was not intoxicated and was not facing charges at the time of the report. Six vehicles were involved in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

A multi-vehicle crash involves 3 or more vehicles.
Why Multi-Vehicle Accidents Are So Complicated
Car accidents that involve more than two vehicles are frustratingly complicated.
The initial impact leads to a chain reaction, often leading to pile-up accidents that cause extensive damage. Injuries are also usually more severe, as multiple vehicles are impacted more than once, aggravating injuries and damage to vehicles.
Insurance Complications
Multi-vehicle accidents are usually the result of an initial collision causing a chain reaction, like what happened in the above story.
Mandatory insurance coverage in Texas does not always cover the cost of injuries in a normal accident between two vehicles. When three or more people are filing a claim against the same driver, it’s likely that minimum coverage won’t even come close to covering the costs.
Determining Fault
It’s common for fault to be hotly contested in multi-vehicle accidents.
Even in the initial collision, figuring out to what extent each driver contributed can be tricky. When so many vehicles are involved, insurance companies will argue that blame lies fully or partially on another driver to avoid liability. For example, they may argue that if another driver had not been following so closely, they would have had time to avoid the initial collision.
Extent of Injuries
When more than one impact occurs, injuries can be aggravated or more severe. Multi-vehicle collisions often happen suddenly and at high speeds, since they are usually the result of distracted driving and/or speeding.
Unfortunately, severe injuries often require more compensation than minimum coverage allows. Combined with the fact that multiple parties will suffer severe injuries, it makes it much harder for victims to get the money they need to fully recover.
How Hiring a Lawyer Can Help
It’s generally recommended that you hire a car accident lawyer if you’re injured in a multi-vehicle accident that wasn’t your fault.
If you caused the accident (or contributed at least 51% to the accident), then you don’t need to hire an attorney. But, if the accident wasn’t your fault, having a lawyer representing your case will ease the burden of all the complications we discussed. For example, a car accident lawyer will:
- Negotiate With Insurance Companies: Using their experience to ensure that you are receiving the full amount of compensation you’re legally entitled to.
- Investigate the Accident: Using their access to extensive resources to help you prove to the insurance that the accident wasn’t your fault.
- Represent Your Case: Using their access to expert witness testimony to clearly show the full extent of the impact that the accident had on your life.
