The joint effort increases greater community awareness about their missions along with a $1,000 donation to a local charity from Carabin Shaw each month.

Carabin Shaw focused efforts on Covid relief during 2020 with mask giveaways, free Covid Care kits (Oximeters and thermometers) and a $100,000 donation to the South Texas Blood Bank that funded incentives for Covid recovery plasma donations. The firm’s mission is to continue the fight against COVID through major projects and support for targeted community aid efforts helping smaller charities.

Carabin Shaw’s newest community contribution is the PAY IT 4WARD program in partnership with Channel 4 news.  Pay It 4Ward invites viewers and the community to help nominate community-based charities.  More than 70 charities were nominated for the first round.

The first winner chosen for a $1,000 donation was SA Life Academy which began as the vision of one family with an intellectually and developmentally disabled adult son in the San Antonio community. They sought a place where their son, upon aging out of the traditional school setting, could continue to learn, grow and contribute to his surrounding community. They established SA Life Academy which affords adults with IDD the opportunity to further their personal development goals in a social setting.

“Our adults have friends to “Do Life Together With” and participate in daily stimulating programming that helps them discover who they want to be outside of the program,” said Cindy Boynton, Executive Director. “We don’t know who nominated us, so I was really surprised!  I was thinking how generous and how this law firm has a giving heart–I appreciated them doing this contribution for non-profits.” said Cindy. Life Academy will use the $1,000 gift to buy tables, chairs and supplies to equip an additional class. “This will help us expand our program to reach other adults with special needs.”

To nominate a non-profit/501 c3 organization, go to the Channel 4 San Antonio website and click on Pay It 4Ward and fill out the form.  Each month news anchor Jeanette Calle will do a series of promotions and a segment on the news to ask the viewers to share a story or reason why Carabin Shaw should donate $1,000 to a specific charity.  The promotions asking for nominations will start the first week of the month and air for a 2-week period.
