TxDOT Launches “Drive Sober. No Regrets” Campaign for 4th of July

Planning a 4th of July party? Plan a sober ride and avoid a DUI in 2024.

TxDOT Launching Summer Campaign Against Drunk Driving for Upcoming 4th of July Celebrations

According to a KSAT News report, the TxDOT is preparing its summer campaign against drunk driving for the upcoming 4th of July celebrations.

As part of its “Faces of Drunk Driving,” the campaign will feature the San Antonio couple from Castroville who lost their son, Charles Trammell III, in a drunk driving accident in 2022. In 2023, San Antonio had 2,347 DUI-alcohol-related traffic crashes, causing 76 fatalities and 189 serious injuries.

There is no excuse to drive drunk in 2024. Plan ahead for a sober ride; set aside money for an Uber, get a designated driver, or take a taxi. There will be an increase in law enforcement patrols to reduce drunk driving from June 21st through July 7th, according to the press release.

There were an average of 3 deaths per day related to alcohol crashes in Texas last year.

What to Do If You’re Hit by a Drunk Driver in San Antonio

The 4th of July is one of the worst times of the year for drunk driving.

Many people across Texas will be traveling to visit family and friends for the celebration. Some of them will make the irresponsible decision to drive buzzed or drunk.

If you’re planning on traveling to celebrate the 4th of July this year, prepare ahead of time and know what to do if you’re in an accident with a drunk driver.

What Should I Do If I’m Hit by a Drunk Driver?

Even if you’re cautious and do everything right, you can still be hurt in an accident with a drunk driver. If that happens, here’s what you need to do to protect your claim:

  1. Call 9-1-1 — Even if the driver flees the scene, call the police and EMS immediately after the accident. You often need a police report to file an insurance claim, and you are legally required to call the police if anyone is hurt in an accident.
  2. Document the Scene — Take photos and/or video of the scene, damage to the vehicles, and any visible injuries. Take note of any cameras that may have caught the accident.
  3. Gather Information — Get the name, phone number, and insurance information of the driver. You can also ask for the name and phone number of any witnesses to the accident.
  4. Seek Medical Attention — Don’t delay in getting medical attention. Minor injuries can escalate to life-threatening if not treated in a timely manner.
  5. Inform Your Insurance of the Accident — There can be complications to your injury claim if you don’t do this as soon as possible after the accident.
  6. Call a DUI Accident Attorney
