According to a News4SA report, an 18-wheeler collision led to one of the trucks rolling over and shutting down Highway 211 today.

Police reported the incident occurred on State Highway 211 near Culebra and San Geronimo Airpark at around 11 a.m. this morning. 18-Wheeler Rollover Accidents in San Antonio

Do you know what’s worse than a rollover accident? An 18-wheeler rollover accident.

Big rigs are inherently not as stable as a passenger car. And, because they can be roughly 80,000 pounds when fully loaded, the damage they do is often catastrophic.

San Antonio sees a lot of 18-wheelers and other large trucks as the population grows and demand for goods and services rises. So, while 18-wheeler rollovers are rare, the likelihood of you experiencing one is increased if you drive in San Antonio. They present a great danger to the truck driver and everyone else on the road when they happen.

Why Do 18-Wheeler Rollovers Happen?

There are many reasons why an 18-wheeler can roll over, including:

  • Speeding — Rollover accidents of every type often involve driving over the speed limit. Taking a turn at high speeds can flip any vehicle, but 18-wheelers are far more likely to roll over than a passenger vehicle at high speeds.
  • Cargo Issues — Overloaded trucks have an increased risk of turning over. However, even if the amount of cargo is correct for the rig, the truck can still flip if it’s not properly loaded.
  • Distracted Driving — Dosing off, fiddling with the radio, watching videos, texting, you name it. Inattention is the second largest rollover crash contributor, according to one study.
  • Oversteering — In addition to controlling speed, truck drivers must also be careful not to oversteer or understeer to avoid flipping their rig. Steering issues were the third largest crash contributor, according to one study.
  • Road Conditions — Wet conditions, sudden changes in road grade, and icy roads are all contributors to 18-wheeler rollovers.
  • Mechanical Problems — 18-wheelers are strictly regulated and required to regularly maintain their vehicles. Some companies cut corners, and resulting brake failures and blown tires are top contributors to rollover accidents.

These issues involve the negligence of the truck driver, trucking company, or both. When the negligence of another party causes your 18-wheeler accident injury, Texas law gives you the right to pursue compensation. Hiring an experienced 18-wheeler accident attorney in San Antonio equips you with expert advice and ensures your settlement value accurately represents the injuries you’ve sustained.
