Uvalde High Quarterback Injured During Coyotes’ Game, Transferred by Life Flight to the Hospital
According to a KSAT News report, Jett Flores was seriously injured during a football game last week.
The family reported the incident happened during the last four minutes of the Coyotes’ game on Friday, September 20th. Jett Flores, junior quarterback, was tackled by a Coyotes senior outside linebacker. He reportedly rolled backward after falling, then immediately jumped back up before collapsing moments later on the turf. The family reported that after he regained consciousness, Jett could not move his lower extremities and had limited movement in his upper body, as well as a severe headache and no recollection of the events.
A CT scan revealed no evidence of brain bleed or spinal fracture. He slowly regained movement in his lower extremities. The Uvalde Coyotes traveled about 40 miles south to play the Crystal City Javelinas, about 100 miles southwest of San Antonio.

Suing for a Football Injury in Texas
Texas plays a lot of football.
With roughly 171,000 high school players and more NFL players than any other state, Texas leads the nation in professional football. However, high-contact sports like football come with extreme risk — you are far more likely to suffer a serious injury in football, basketball, or soccer than in other sports.
After being seriously injured from playing football, it’s natural to wonder if you can sue for your injuries. There are some circumstances that warrant a lawsuit for a football injury in Texas.
When Can You Recover Compensation for a Football Injury in Texas?
Most sports injuries, even serious ones, do not warrant a lawsuit. This is because of the legal concept of “assumption of risk.”
Assumption of risk is legal speak for “you should know that you can be seriously hurt playing a contact sport.” Many sports organizers require you to sign documents showing that you understand this (for minors, the parents sign the documents).
If your injury happened because of a situation not inherent to the sport, that’s a different story.
For example, you may be able to sue for your football injury if it happened because of:
- Defective Equipment/Unsafe Facility — If there was a flaw or defect in any of the protective gear, and that defect caused your injury, you may be able to collect compensation for it. Also, if the property managers left the field in an unsafe condition (i.e., debris, unfilled holes, etc.), they may be held responsible for your injury.
- Negligent Coaching — A coach is not expected to prevent all injuries. However, a coach is expected to follow basic safety measures, ensure proper hydration, and provide adequate rest breaks. If failure to do this causes injury, they could be held responsible.
- Intentional Misconduct — If someone is intentionally violent, that is not considered a normal risk of playing football. Additionally, any supervisors who knew about violent behavior but allowed the player to participate anyway could also be held accountable for resulting injuries.
