High-Speed Crash Involving Teen Driver Hospitalizes 5

Drivers often become more careless near home.

5 People Injured in High-Speed Crash Caused by Teen Driver

According to a KSAT News report, a teen driver caused an accident that injured 5 people and nearly sent the vehicle crashing into a South Side home.

Police reported the incident occurred at around noon on October 15, on the 200 block of Creath Place. The driver, 15, was speeding when he blew through a stop sign, hitting another vehicle with four occupants inside. Everyone involved in the accident was transported to the hospital in stable condition with minor injuries. The teen driver was issued a citation. His vehicle also damaged a telephone pole, a tree, and a home on that street.

Did You Know?

Most people (88%) are injured within 10 miles of their home, with the most vulnerable groups being the elderly, children, cyclists, and pedestrians.

What To Do If You’re Hit by a Driver with No License in San Antonio

Driving a vehicle is a privilege afforded to those older than 15 and who have undergone proper training to receive a license. This makes driving safer for everyone and is a legal requirement. Everybody knows this, but that doesn’t stop some people from breaking the law — the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that 5% of drivers in fatal crashes had no license, and 6.7% had their license revoked.

So, what do you do if you are hit and injured by a driver with no license in San Antonio? Let’s take a look.

First Steps

Fortunately, the law requires drivers who have no license to pay for any damages they cause in an accident, the same as drivers who do. So, the first steps to take after an accident with an unlicensed driver are the same as a regular accident.

  1. Call the Police — This is required if anyone is injured or if there is significant property damage, but we recommend calling the police for an accident report even if no one was injured.
  2. Get the Driver’s Information — Get their name, phone number, and insurance info (if they have insurance).
  3. Take Photos — Photograph any damage and the surrounding scene, and note any cameras that may have recorded the incident.
  4. Seek Medical Attention — If you or your passengers are hurt, get help ASAP. Even if you don’t think you’re injured, get checked out anyway. Some injuries appear later or become worse as time goes on.
  5. Inform Your Insurance — Report the accident as close to it as possible. You usually have a limited time to report the accident, so do it before you forget.

If the Driver Doesn’t Have Insurance

Not having a license doesn’t mean they don’t have insurance, but it could. Your uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage and your PIP insurance will cover damages and injury after the accident if the driver has no insurance.

Either way, insurance companies are known to not want to pay out insurance claims. If you’ve been injured by a motorist with no license and no insurance in San Antonio, it’s a good idea to have an experienced attorney representing your claim.
