March 10, 2020, Houston, Texas: Three men are dead and a fourth is in serious condition after a violent high-speed crash in northeast Harris County on Friday, March 6th.
Arturo Mireles, 19, the driver of a white Honda Civic, was speeding on Aqueduct Road near North Lake Houston Parkway when he ran a stop sign and crashed into a tree around 2 a.m., Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said. The driver and front passenger were killed instantly, while one of the two rear passengers died on the way to the hospital, Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez later identified Alfonso Quintanilla, 21, and Francisco Vargas, 25, as those who died. The fourth passenger, Alan Parada, 25, underwent surgery and remains in serious condition. “It’s a very devastating crash,” Gonzalez said. “The entire motor was in the front compartment of the vehicle.”
Deputies were not immediately sure how the four men knew each other. They all appeared to be in their early 20s, Gonzalez said. Investigators will determine if anything contributed to the crash, such as alcohol or any other intoxicant. Speed was a factor, Gonzalez said.
“It’s a large loss of life, losing three individuals,” Gonzalez said. “Whatever the circumstances were, it’s always something very sad to see so much death in one incident.”
