The Top 3 Most Common Sports Injuries in San Antonio and When to Sue

When you play sports, there’s an inherent risk that you could be hurt. Everybody knows that, and many sports events will not allow you to participate unless you sign a waiver releasing them of liability for injuries for that reason.

But does that mean you can never sue for a sports injury? Not quite. Read on to find out the most common sports injuries in San Antonio and when you can sue for them.

Top 3 Sports Injuries in San Antonio

Whether you just play as a hobby or you’re a professional athlete, you’re going to be injured from time to time. The most common injuries you can sustain include:

  • Hip Flexor Strains — Sprinting, turning, and running starts can cause a hip flexor injury. The hip flexor is located on the upper front side of your thigh muscles.
  • ACL Tears/Strains — Slowing down, cutting, and pivoting to change direction can cause an ACL injury. The ACL is a major stabilizing ligament in the knee.
  • Concussions/TBI — Hitting the head against the ground, a ball, an object, or another person can cause a concussion injury or a TBI. Even seemingly light falls can cause a TBI.

Injuries like these are common in popular San Antonio sports, like soccer, volleyball, football, gymnastics, and tennis.

When Should You Sue for a Sports Injury?

If you sustained a serious injury (like a TBI, concussion, or broken bone), you should talk to a lawyer about filing a personal injury claim. However, if you’ve only sustained a minor injury that has no long-term impact, you probably don’t have grounds for a claim.

Many schools and professional sports programs claim to put the athlete’s safety first but fail to do so. Negligent coaches, unsafe sports facilities, defective equipment, and intentional conduct cause athletes across San Antonio to suffer serious injuries.

If you or your child was seriously injured playing sports, you could be entitled to compensation.
