Top 3 Causes of Head-on Collisions in San Antonio
People die every day in auto accidents in Texas, and head-on collisions are one of the most deadly kinds of accidents. They have a 58% fatality rate, and no wonder — high-speed collisions with cars traveling in opposite directions cause incredible devastation.
This article will cover the top 3 causes of head-on collisions in San Antonio and what to do if you’re injured in a head-on collision.
Distracted Driving
Driving while texting, changing clothes, talking on the phone, fiddling with the radio, and many other ways to drive distracted are the most common reasons for head-on collisions. It only takes a few seconds to drift into oncoming traffic and potentially end your life or the life of another driver.
Distracted driving is illegal, but that doesn’t stop most people. If you want to avoid a head-on collision in San Antonio, stay alert.
Tired Driving
Fatigued drivers often make careless mistakes. Driving when you are exhausted has similar effects on the brain as alcohol impairment, including reduced cognitive abilities and performance. It’s very dangerous to yourself and other drivers.
As the busy holiday season approaches, make sure you start your driving prepared. Get plenty of sleep the night before your family road trip, drink a cup of coffee or two if you start to feel tired, and don’t hesitate to find somewhere to pull over for a 20-minute nap. It could save your life.
Inappropriate Response to Poor Weather/ Low Visibility
Winter brings shorter days, longer periods of darkness, and poor weather to San Antonio. Make sure to adjust your driving behavior to suit the conditions on the road. If it’s dark and raining, the speed limit may be too fast for safe driving. Construction and heavy traffic only increase the dangers of poor road conditions, so slow down and turn your lights on when conditions call for it.
